sitcom airing on AMC Sunday nights.
Bryan Cranston stars as Walter White,
a disillusioned high-school chemistry
teacher, who in his desperation, turns his
professional talents to the production
of crystal-meth.
The feeling that best describes the reaction to AMC's new comedic socio-drama, Breaking Bad, is one of instant jealousy.
What a great idea! The timing is perfect. Why the hell didn't I think of that!
It's one of those shows that as soon as you see it, you want to be part of it. It has the nasty effect of making you feel like you just missed out on one of the greatest opportunities of your life.
It's like nothing else on the tube. It's sharp, cutting, comedic social docu-drama; Perfectly cast, and impeccably delivered.
The inspiration for the story apparently came from a conversation between Vince Gilligan, and an old college buddy, in which it is jokingly suggested that they should quit the writing business, and start cooking Meth instead. (Buddytv.com - Vince Gilligan Talks About Breaking Bad).
Walter White, (Bryan Cranston), is a middle aged married high-school chemistry teacher, burning the candle at both ends, trying to provide for himself, his wife, and their physically handicapped, teenage son, when he's diagnosed with lung-cancer.
Frustrated and lured by the prospect of easy money through meth, he decides to pursue it, and follows through on an offer made by his brother-in-law, a DEA-agent, Hank (Dean Norris), to go on a ride-along as they raid a meth-lab.
During the drug-bust, Walter recognizes Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), a former student of his, as he tries to sneak away, and realizes Pinkman is the infamous meth producer known as "Captain Cook".
He promptly decides to blackmail Pinkman into partnering with him, and the plot is set.
What really sets this show apart, is the outrageous plausibility that Bryan Cranston, and Aaron Paul bring to the production through their stellar performance.
The casting of these two personalities is remarkable. There’s a synergy between them, that extends to the rest of the cast, and produces a level of cohesiveness, that is usually only found in big-budget theatrical productions.
Vince Gilligan’s unique directorial style, lends a box office, cinematic, action-thriller feel, and sense of immediacy that keeps you glued in your seat for the duration of the hour-long episode.
Judging by what we've seen so far, this show deserves a five out of five, but probably wont get it because it's so damn hilarious, and way too real!

When liberty is taken away by force it can be restored by force. When it is relinquished voluntarily by default it can never be recovered.

The Free Software Foundation’s membership drive is coming to a close at the end the month.
This is the No.#1 organization when it comes to the continued preservation of liberty in the software world.
The FSF is the foundation responsible for the GNU/Linux project, and the GPL (Gnu Public License).
They are an organization dedicated to freedom in computing, including, but not limited to, freedom from anti-social DRM technologies.
The organization’s main mission is the preservation of the computer user’s rights, and freedom to use one’s software without undue influence, or restriction, by proprietary vendors, and their agents.
Imagine that. An organization that actually believes your computers is yours to do with as you wish. An organization dedicated to protecting your right to use your computer, the hardware and the software that make it functional, without having to ask for permission, without breaking any laws, or being clandestinely spied upon by your operating system.
What will they think of next? Freedom of Speech? Freedom of the Press? Freedom of Information?
If you’re of the belief that corporations, not people, for people, by people, should set the standards, or regulate what you can and cannot do with your computer, then ignore this group. If you value the freedoms granted to you by the constitution(s), ...[continue reading]

Open Source
is a term referring to software licensing agreeements, by which applications, and their source code are publicly and readily available for study, modification, and development. Though it is not a requirement of the agreement, open source applications are frequently made available for free (gratis) to the public, ‘Free’, in the context of the open source licence, refers to ‘free’ public access to the source-code, and not ‘free’ as in “free-beer”.
