Oil and Water - They Mix

colorful-oil-bublles-in-water by Kristian M @ http://www.flickr.com/photos/27082352@N07/3899642280Contrary to popular belief, oil and water do mix - you just have to add enough dispersant.
I'm really pissed-off that the government said stop using dispersants and a foreign company had enough clout to say "fuck you".

Most of us don't do dishes by hand. We put them in a dishwasher instead. But those of us who were around before the proliferation of the dishwasher are very aware of the simple fact that if you've got greasy dishes, you use plenty of soap to dissolve the grease in the water. (See:Corexit-Wikipedia).

The Gulf of Mexico will now be like a giant sink full of highly toxic dishwater. We'll never be able to remove the oil and dispersant from the water – we're all going to have to eat BP shit 'till kingdom come! Welcome to the low end of the food-chain.

The most remarkable aspect of what's happened in the Gulf is seeing that government has no power at all when it comes to controlling industry.

I remember about half-way into the disaster, the Obama administration raised concerns about the use of dispersants in the Gulf and were politely told to go f-themselves.

President Obama wanted a moratorium on deep-water exploration and was politely told to go f-himself.

youtube-video-oil-leak-linkWatch the Ted Talks Video of the Month, (which is an awesome video by the way), you'll see a demonstration of the effects of dispersants. It's not frightening, but it is disgusting.

And it happened for the sake of saving 0.000000000000000000001 cent on the dollar.

An industrial accident of this scale and nature is something straight out of the 60's. Not that long ago the population was uninformed and uneducated enough to pass with a "shit happens" – not so long ago.
